Spiritual Companions

Our Spiritual Companions are an integral part of our mission. The role of spiritual companions is to provide comfort and spiritual companionship during a time when patients and their families may feel isolated and alone.

Heart of Jesus Spiritual Companions are a group of Christian men and women who, through training and a love of all souls, seeks to provide spiritual fellowship to those in their final days of life.

What We Do

A Spiritual Companion will sit with, listen to, and pray for one hour each week with those who are in their last few months of life to help facilitate a peaceful death.

Where We Serve

We share our services with those in their homes or nursing facilities within the greater Fort Wayne area.

Why We Serve

Following the example of Mother Teresa as she served the dying, we believe that all life is sacred, and that dying persons and their families should receive both the physical and spiritual support needed to prepare them as they journey toward eternal life.

The program will provide ongoing support and supervision for volunteers to ensure that they are well-equipped to handle the emotional challenges of this role. We believe that this program will not only benefit patients and their families, but also provide a meaningful and fulfilling experience for our volunteers.

Testimonials

“It was Divine Providence who led Heart of Jesus Home for the Dying to share a spiritual companion with my 93 yr old mom who is now confined to the end of life challenges. The visits are a treasured time for her to share her faith in prayer and song with her very special friend in Christ. A bond was quickly formed, and my mom is left in a state of heavenly peace every week. Thank you so very much for your ministry! It is truly a precious gift to our family.”

“When I sit with the dying person, I know I am right where God wants me to be.”

"My mom, who is deaf, blind, and has dementia, comes to life with a touch of the hand or the sign of the cross. She loved and did so much for Our Lady of Good Hope Church that it warms my heart to know she is not forgotten, because she matters. God has her here for a reason." - M.W.
